PUPILS from Merkinch Primary School were put through their paces when they were invited by Inverness City Boxing Club to take part in a training session.

A total of 55 kids were given the opportunity to look around the boxing gym when they met with club coaches and boxers who gave them a taste of how athletes prepare before competing in bouts. The visit to the club in Grant Street formed part of the school’s physical education lesson.

Boxers Calum Turnbull and Adian Williamson were on hand to help teach the kids boxing skills such as sparring and helped them use equipment such as punching bags.

They also taught them the importance of warming up as they lead exercise sessions before getting into the ring.

Head coach Laurie Redfern says he was impressed with the enthusiasm that the children showed during the visit to the club on Monday.

He said they are having talks with the school to make their visit a regular thing.
