Brad McKay says he is happy to continue playing at right-back if it helps Inverness Caledonian Thistle achieve positive results in the Championship.

The 27-year-old has been forced to switch to full-back from centre back to cover Wallace Duffy, who is recovering from injury.

But it is a position which McKay has performed well in, proving he is capable in attack, as well as defence, since moving to the wing.

McKay says he would prefer to be back in the centre, but appreciates the fact manager John Robertson feels he is capable of covering at full-back.

He says he will do what is required to help the team get victory.

“I have been filling in for Wallace Duffy at right-back,” said McKay.

“It is not my preferred position, but if that is what it takes to do a job for the team and the manager, then that is what has to be done.

“I have done OK there a couple of games, Danny Devine and Robbie Deas have done well at centre back and it is difficult to change something when it is going well.”

McKay, who joined Inverness in 2016, has played in the back line with a number of defenders.

He feels playing alongside Deas and Devine, as well as Cameron Harper and goalkeeper Mark Ridgers, they are continuing to work on becoming a solid defence.

“I have been with people who have came and gone in the last few seasons,” he said.

“I’ve played with Jamie McCart, Coll Donaldson, Gary Warren, Josh Meekings, now it is Danny Devine and Robbie Deas.

“Mark Ridgers has done well and over the piece, I have felt comfortable in the back four.

“Cameron Harper has done well and Kevin McHattie has to come back in too. It will be a tough challenge for a place in the top four when everyone is fit.

“That is up to the manager and coaches, they will pick the best team that can win that game.

“We know that our places are never secure. We know that we have to be consistent and to show why we are deserving of a place.”

Speaking about their chances of promotion, McKay says top four is more than achievable.

“It is tough to win the league with the budget we’ve got,” he said.

“But the manager recruits well enough and we have enough quality to do well.

“We know what we’re capable of and can get to the play-offs this season.

“It would be an unsuccessful season if we didn’t.”
