Inverness Caledonian Thistle Women manager Karen Mason is wary of an improving Buchan side coming to the Highland capital on Sunday.

Earlier in the campaign when Caley Thistle went on the road, Inverness beat Buchan 5–0, but since then the Aberdeenshire outfit have picked up some solid results and risen up the table.

Some new faces have helped them along the way, so Mason will be making sure her side take nothing for granted at Inverness Royal Academy this weekend.

“There has definitely been an improvement since the last time we played them, so we’ll have to make sure we don’t take them too lightly,” Mason said.

“I was looking at the league and a win against us, for them, would put them into the mix for fourth and then they’re not far off us.

“We’ve definitely got to make sure we’re on top of our game and not make any more slip-ups.

“I wouldn’t think they will be too dissimilar, but they’ve maybe added a bit of quality here or there that has shored them up at the back.

“They conceded a fair amount of goals at the start of the season, and that doesn’t seem to be happening as much now, whatever that is down to, but I know additions have been made.”

Recent results have been slightly up and down for the Caley Jags, who missed an opportunity to move into second against East Fife but beat Dryburgh Athletic – who went on to lift the Championship Cup last week.

Unbeaten league leaders Montrose were the losing finalists, something that will give the likes of ICT a ray of hope in the title race.

“It opened up our eyes a bit to see that Montrose aren’t this unbeatable team that they have appeared to be in the league,” Mason added.

“I think it has given a bit of a boost to the girls because nobody was expecting Dryburgh to do it on Sunday because the last time they played Montrose in the league, Montrose were 7–0 winners. We’ll be hoping to capitalise and move up another place in the league table soon.”
