NAIRN County manager Wayne Mackintosh says the main objective for Nairn County is to do better in the Highland League than last season as he looks forward to his first campaign as boss.

Mackintosh was appointed as the new man in charge at Station Park in April as he took over permanently from Ross Tokely who resigned halfway through last season.

Nairn had a disappointing campaign in the Highland League last season as they finished in 13th place, with only five of their 10 wins at home.

Mackintosh says the club know that their performances last season were disappointing and that the main aim for this season is just to reach a higher position than before.

He said: “ We want to do better than last season.

“I won’t put pressure on the boys, I have a points tally that I want them to work towards.

“Maybe we will look to improve on the home record from last year, the points tally at home last season was poor and we can do better.

“But we just want to improve on last season.”

During his career, Mackintosh played 410 games with Nairn County during two different periods at the club.

He says it is still a surreal experience giving the orders to players in the changing room at from the dugout. But he is relishing being on the role and looking to improve the club’s fortunes on the field.

He said: “It is very strange, it is different standing in front of the boys and telling them what to do. I have done coaching at under-18’s here and I have had a good reaction from the boys who want to do well and that is half the battle.”

Nairn have been boosted with the signing of Calum Mackay and Andrew Greig, Ben Kelly and Dylan Maclean all agreeing to new deals.

Mackintosh says he is still looking to bolster his squad, but is also happy with the players at his disposal as they prepare for the new season.

He said: “Things are going well, if boys stopped taking holidays it would be better.

“We are looking to add a couple of more additions before the season starts and I am happy with the squad that I have got.

“I would like to get a more experienced midfielder, but I am comfortable going into the season if we don’t.

“There is a good squad there and the boys that are here can do a job.”
