Manager says Inverness Caley Thistle need to take bull by horns to win at Dundee
Billy Dodds is looking for one of his Inverness Caledonian Thistle players to step up and lead by example as the need for immediate results escalates.
The ICT head coach has already admitted a play-off place is likely the best his side can hope for over the rest of the season, but a tricky run of matches are coming up – starting with a trip to Dundee tomorrow.
With Inverness already five points behind the top four after going five league matches without a win, any further slip-ups could prove fatal to their promotion chances.
Dodds, though, has been generally happy with performance levels in recent weeks, with the only thing lacking being goals.
Going forward, then, he wants to see his players take initiative in the final third to keep Caley Thistle’s promotion dream alive.
“I just want someone to stand up and take the bull by the horns, and be ruthless,” Dodds, in his second season in charge, explained.
“We did that in the Livingston game, and Hamilton the other night could have been the same if we took our chances.
“In terms of performance level, my team aren’t playing poorly over the last four games. We’re just not getting the rewards we deserve, and that’s frustrating because it’s a crucial time of the season.
“We’ve got to get into the mindset of doing it now.
“We’ve got to do it now to give ourselves a lift and propel ourselves up the table, and build that momentum and confidence.
“We can’t think we’ll still have seven games to go and hopefully take 15 points from them – it doesn’t work like that.
“I still go back to it, there’s no way we’re sitting seventh if we had most of our players.
“You build your squad for two or three long-term injuries in a season, and if that’s what we had there would be no way we’d be sitting seventh right now, but we are.
“We’ve had chances to go above that, but we haven’t taken them. That’s the story of our season so far, but we have plenty of time to go.”
