Manager predicts new signing to find the goals Clachnacuddin are looking for
MANAGER Conor Gethins is tipping new signing Andrew Macrae to bang in the goals Clachnacuddin need to find further success in the Highland League this season.
The 26-year-old signed for the Lilywhites from Brora Rangers and he made his debut for the club in a 1-0 defeat against Formartine United in Pitmedden.
The former Highland League player of the year is the latest high profile name to join the club this season.
Along with former Brora Rangers players Gavin Morrison, Joe Malin and Josh Meekings, along with ex-Nairn County striker Scottie Davidson, Clachnacuddin have significantly strengthened their squad this season.
Macrae arrived at Grant Street Park following Connor Bunce’s exit last week as he signed for Brora Rangers.
Gethins says Macrae is a massive signing for the club and despite not scoring at the weekend, is predicting him to be a big hit at Grant Street Park.
Gethins said: “Andrew Macrae did excellent for us considering he has not played much games recently.
“This time last year, Clachnacuddin wouldn’t have been on these boys radars.
“It shows how far we have come so quickly and we have players who are keen to come.
“Andy was very keen to come and Conor made his feelings known he wanted to leave so it was a no brainer we worked something out. But he will get the goals that we will need.”
Gethins was disappointed with the 1-0 defeat at Formartine after feeling Clachnacuddin were the better team in the second half.
But he says it was another performance which showed Clachnacuddin can be competitive against the best clubs in the division.
“The first half was 50-50 as we had half chances from cross and we should have went in 1-1 each with Allan Macphee having a great chance at the back post.
“But apart from Formartine have a 10-minute spell in the second half, when they tried to come quickly to finish the game off, we dealt with that easily. Then it was one-way traffic and we put a lot of pressure on them. We hit the crossbar missed open goals and the final ball across the six-yard box was not good enough.
“It has been the story of our season when we come up against the so-called big six. But I was really happy with how we worked and how we dealt with the game. There was a real togetherness.”
