MANAGER Scott Bremner praised Glengarry for coming from behind to retain the Single Team Cup title after defeating Kilmory 5-2 after extra time in the final.

The Invergarry outfit had to come from behind twice to force extra time before stamping their authority to lift the trophy in Ballachulish.

Alex Cunningham gave Kilmory the lead in the 67th minute with Nick Dalgetty levelling from the penalty spot two minutes later. Nairn Jackson restored the lead for Kilmory with Stuart Gregory equalising with 15 minutes remaining.

In extra time, Dalgetty scored two more goals in-between a strike from Brian Macdonald as Glengarry lifted the trophy for the second successive year.

Manager Scott Bremner says it was a never say die performance from his team as they were determined to hold on to the trophy for another year.

He said: “Credit to Kilmory, I thought they were night and day from last year to the team they have this year.

“There was nothing in it during 90 minutes and we had to come back quickly twice from going behind.

“At the end of full time, I said to the boys if we managed to get in front in extra time, we would have them, and that is how it went.

“It was a huge effort from the team and some players were carrying injuries.

“But there is always the will to win in a final and the team gave everything that they had.”

Glengarry have won the Single Team Cup twice in the competition’s three year history and have appeared in every final.

Bremner says it has become a special competition to the club and one where they always target lifting the trophy.

“It is the only realistic chance of silverware we have,” he said.

“We don’t have much more than a 14-man squad along with other players who can help us out.

“The Single Team Cup is a competition which has become hugely important to us.”

Glengarry return to action in North Division One on Saturday as they head to Fort William.

They are in third place in North Division One, but 12 points behind Strathglass who are running away at the top.

Bremner is looking to use their cup success to go on a strong finish to the campaign.

“We are doing well in the league and integrated a few of the youngsters who are coming on well.

“We are determined to do the best we can every week.”

“Realistically Strathglass are away with the league, so we are looking to get as much game time for the youngsters for the rest of the season.

“We will make some changes in the final games of the season.

“But winning the cup means a lot to the old guys and it is good to get the young lads involved in the squad too.

“We will regroup and look to get some more youngsters into the squad for the future.”
