CLACHNACUDDIN got off to the perfect start in their Highland League campaign as they recorded a 2-0 victory at Lossiemouth.

The Lilywhites were gifted a goal after 15 minutes when Lossiemouth player Michael Weir turned the ball into his own net.

Clachnacuddin then doubled their advantage just before the half hour mark when Allan MacPhee launched a thunderous curling effort into the top corner.

Lossiemouth had the better opportunities in the second half, but Clach goalkeeper Joe Malin rarely look threatened as Clach comfortably saw out the match.

Manager Conor Gethins was pleased to Clachnacuddin began their campaign with a victory.

He said: “The performance was good in the first half, but in the second half we went a bit flat.

“But that was because of the energy we spent in the first half which was unbelievable to see how quick we were. And how much energy the guys show, but I never felt we were never under any threat. We had one chance towards the end of the game, but when you have Joe Malin in goal you are comfortable that you are going to save it.

“Other than that we dominated the game, showed some good passages of play.”

Gethins also praised Macphee for finding the net in his first competitive game of the season after arriving from Loch Ness during the summer.

“Alan Macphee has always been a player who will score goals and cause problems.

“He has stepped out of the Highland League for a while. But when he came here, I challenged him to come back and showed what he can do.

“On Saturday, he showed that and can keep doing that for the rest of the season.

We are capable of a top ten finish, it is about if we can do it the right way, we have signed 11 new players and there has been a big overhaul in the squad. But it was needed and we have a lot of experience in the team.”
