The Macaulay Cup first round kicks off this weekend with the vast majority of sides in shinty’s top two leagues in knockout action.

Lovat have been drawn away to Kilmallie as they look to continue their strong start to the campaign.

Three wins from three in the Premiership see the Kiltarlity outfit well-placed in the league table with games in hand, and they knocked defending champions Kinlochshiel out of the MacTavish Cup in the first round.

Lovat were actually due to face Kilmallie in the quarter final, but that match was postponed two weeks ago, but the sides have already been acquainted with each other this season.

That is because on the opening day of the Premiership season 3–0, Lovat beat Kilmallie in Caol thanks to goals from Greg Matheson, Fraser Heath and Marc MacLachlan, so there is every reason for the visitors to be confident tomorrow.

Elsewhere in the first round draw, Kinlochshiel will look to overcome their early-season hangover away at Newtonmore, Kingussie host Fort William, Oban Camanachd take on Glasgow Mid Argyll and Kyles Athletic go to Oban Celtic.

Caberfeidh progress to the next round after Lochaber withdrew, Bute going to Aberdour and Inveraray hosting Col Glen.

There is only one match taking place in the National Division, and it pits two sides sitting side-by-side in the table against each other as Glenurquhart host local rivals Strathglass at Blairbeg Park in Drumnadrochit.
