Greg Lobban is guaranteed to be playing for a Commonwealth Games medal after he made it into the semi finals of the squash men's doubles with partner Rory Stewart.

Lobban, a former Inverness Tennis and Squash Club member, and Stewart overcame Australian duo Zac Alexander and Ryan Cuskelly in straight sets – 11–2, 11–9.

They will face either English pair Adrian Waller and Darryl Selby or Canadian duo Nick Sachvie and David Baillargeon – who are currently playing their quarter final – in the last four.

Win that, and Lobban will at worst have a silver medal to show for his efforts in Birmingham over the last two weeks. Even in defeat, Lobban and Stewart would go into the bronze medal match.

The other half of the draw has thrown up a semi final between Englishmen James Willstrop and Declan James, and Malaysian pair Ng Eain Yow and Ivan Yuen.

Lobban has so far fallen short in his quest to win a medal at the Commonwealths, losing to wife Donna in the mixed doubles quarter finals yesterday.

The 29-year-old fell at the same stage in the men's singles draw, too, losing 3–1 to Indian third seed Saurav Ghosal who ended up winning a bronze medal.
