Midfielder Scott Allardice says Inverness Caledonian Thistle need to aim to win their final three matches to secure a place in the Championship play-offs.

Listen to full interview after last night's 2–1 Scottish Cup fourth round defeat to St Mirren below.

Inverness are in fourth place, one point ahead of Dunfermline Athletic with three games remaining starting at home to Dundee on Tuesday night.

Caley Thistle then travel to champions Hearts before their final game of the regular season at home to Ayr United.

With their play-off fate in their own hands, Allardice says the only way Inverness can ensure a place in the top four is by taking nine points from their final three games.

"It is so hard to tell, we need to aim for three because a side could drop points and next they could win 4-0.

"It is a mad league, so we need to win every game which I think is doable.

"But a massive three points against Dundee would be the big one because they are in and around it as well."

Last night's 2–1 Scottish Cup defeat to St Mirren was Caley Thistle's first loss in nine matches.

Allardice is confident they can bounce back immediately, saying the squad has a different mentality from the one he blasted as embarrassing in the 1-0 loss to Morton during a run of one win in 13 games.

"From that game we have kicked on, at times we have not played as well but we have been more solid and won games and that is a big thing.

"But we’ve shown that we’ve turned a corner with results and it is time to kick on.

"There are three massive games in the league and hopefully we’re in the play-offs."

While disappointing to be knocked out of the Scottish Cup, Allardice says Inverness showed against St Mirren and Ross County they are good enough to compete in the Premiership.

"It showed that we can compete at this level, they might have been one-off games.

"But in the two games against these sides, we took on St Mirren who were unlucky to miss out on top six, we made a bit of statement.

"We passed the ball well and competed well and were unlucky in the end.

"But we came to these grounds and played against these teams and showed we are more than capable of competing against them."
