Inverness City Lions recorded their biggest win of the season as they stayed top of Scottish Basketball Division Two with a 96-67 victory over Glasgow University B.

The 29-point victory at Millburn Academy sees them remain top, level on points with Stirling Knights but ahead on head-to-head matches.

It was the Lions’ first win in three league matches as they overcame a two-game slump after winning their first seven matches.

Coach Ruariadh Maclennan was pleased with how ruthless his team were as they hit almost 100 points into the basket.

“It is a win that we needed after a two loss streak,” he said.

“It was important for the team to have a good game and get back to winning ways.

“Everyone was on top form and up for the game.

“The fact we were playing at home and had a full squad was also a big help as well.

“After losing our first game to Glasgow University B, we were definitely keen to make a statement on our home court.”

Despite Glasgow University opening the scoring, the City Lions soon took control with a couple of outside shots.

From there they never looked back, with a convincing 34-16 opening quarter lead.

Inverness started the second quarter with the same intensity. But Glasgow were determined to stay in the game with the score in the first half finishing 66–41.

The third quarter was a low scoring affair as Inverness consolidated their advantage scoring just 18 points and limiting Glasgow to just seven with the scoreline 84–48 going into the final quarter.

Glasgow attempted a late rally scoring 19 points but Inverness were happy to play defensively to see out the match.

Player of the game was Peter Gounaris as he scored 16 points, 12 steals, 13 assists and 10 rebounds.

Inverness City Lions have a break this weekend but will return to action next Saturday.

They will travel down to Edinburgh to take on Heriot Watt University who are second bottom in the division.
