Highland head coach Dave Carson says despite reaching the National League Cup final, promotion to National One remains the club's first priority.

The Greens caused a stunning semi final upset when they defeated Musselburgh 30-28 at Canal Park.

They could go into the final with back to back promotions by clinching the second promotion place in their next two league games starting at Peebles on Saturday.

Highland only need six points from their final three games to clinch going to the second tier of Scottish club rugby.

Carson says their excellent cup run has also played a major part in their success in the league and is confident they go up.

"The league is the most important thing but the cup games have also helped us to keep the momentum going," he said.

"If we hadn't been in the cup we would have had a lot of weeks off.

"These extra games have helped and brought other guys into the squad and given them the exposure to National One sides. Fingers crossed that will be invaluable to us next season if we got up."
