Inverness athlete Jenny Bannerman won silver at the Scottish 5k championship after taking part in the competition for the first time in three years.

A strong surge over the last 500 metres took her home in a time of 16:48, eight seconds clear of bronze medallist Jo Williams (Lothian) in a race won by defending champion Annabel Simpson of Fife AC.

This completed the Inverness Harrier’s set of national road race medals across the 5k to 10 mile range and improved on her fifth place in this championship in 2014 and fourth in 2015.
