Calum Macleod says he has made his childhood dream a reality by breaking into the first team squad at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The former Inverness Royal Academy pupil is one of the youngsters who has been given a chance to prove himself in League One this season.

Macleod (18) came off the bench in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Montrose and has impressed fans with his performances since has been called upon.

He has come a long way since first joining the football club almost 10 years ago and says it is a surreal experience being in the same team as players who he used to watch from the stands.

He says he is relishing the chance of playing senior football and is determined to prove himself to manager Duncan Ferguson.

He said: “I did Caley Thistle hotshots and I was nine-years-old when I first came to the club.

“Since joining Caley Thistle, I have never looked back.

“The football club has become a massive part of my life.

“When I was told that I would be in the first team squad I was excited, but I must admit some nerves crept in as well.

“I worked hard over the summer and looked like it is paying off. I

“I remember coming to games here and watching the likes of Danny Devine and Billy Mckay playing. They are players who I have always looked up to.”

Macleod plays as a central midfielder with Inverness Caledonian Thistle and he is working with Ferguson into how he can be best utilised on the pitch.

He said: “I try pass it quickly and that is how you are able to create space and move the ball around quickly. I think we have managed to move the ball in lots of good areas, we just need to find that final touch.

“The manager tried me as six holding where Charlie Gilmour is, but I think he quite likes me in the number eight role.

“My plan is to establish myself as part of the first team and I will look to keep going for as long as I can.”

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are still looking for their first win in League One this season as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Montrose at the Caledonian Stadium.

Macleod says while the team needs to improve results on the pitch, he feels they didn’t get what they deserved on Saturday.

“Definitely not, we had more than enough chances to get three, four or five in the second half,” he said.

“We just needed to break the deadlock which did come eventually.

“We are believing more with every game, but we know that we have not been good enough, and need to get back to winning ways and get back up the league.”
