They were one of five Inverness clubs which received almost £27,000 of grants by the initiative.

Drew McNeil of Inverness Shinty Club said the money will be used to boost the number of kids taking part in the sport in the city.

“The funding allows our club to sustain our current level of delivery and hopefully by August start taster sessions in current schools and progress to expand Shinty’s growing footprint across the city schools.

"We fully expect a significant uptake and increase in new members this year which we are confident with the new funding we can take in our stride.”

Also receiving funding were Inverness Highlanders Junior Ice Hockey Club (£6786), Inverness Tennis and Squash Club (£6000), Inverness Skating and Ice Dance Club (£3273) and Merkinch Football Academy (£4000)
