KARATE Alba sensei Dolina Ross and her student Vilis Forstmanis celebrated double success at The UK Karate Awards.

The Inverness duo were both recognised for their achievements in martial arts at the awards ceremony which took place at The Scotsman Hotel in Edinburgh.

Ross was recognised for her contribution to Scottish and British karate when she received The Outstanding British Achievement in Karate (Global) award.

Forstmanis was also recognised for his achievements when he was named as UK Para Athlete of the Year.

He has diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia which has affected the use of his legs. But it has not stopped him continuing participating the sport that he loves.

Ross says it was an emotional moment for both of them to receive their awards and for her personally after first taking up karate 47 years ago.

She spoke about how one incident, where she feared for her life, made her determined to learn how to defend herself.Read her full story clicking here.
