PRIMARY school children in Inverness helped conduct the draw of one of shinty's biggest tournaments.

Players from Hilton Hornets at Hilton Primary School were on hand to deliver the draw for the first round of the Cottages.com MacTavish Cup.

The draw was conducted by Callum Arie Morrison and Duncan Oparka from Hilton Primary School, deciding which eight teams would play in the first round of the tournament with three teams receiving a bye to the quarter final stage.

Hilton Hornets are involved in the sport thanks to the Inverness Shinty Academy who deliver training sessions to 400 players at schools across the city.

Camanachd Association chief executive Derek Keir said: “We were delighted to conduct the Cottages.com MacTavish first round draw this morning at Hilton Primary School.

"We are passionate about giving young members the opportunity to get involved in the highest level of shinty – by having some young Hilton Hornets conducting the draw."

Camanachd Association president Keith Loades said the kids delivered an exciting draw which is available to view clicking here.

“The draw has once again paired together some of the best Shinty teams of the North.

"Lovat welcome Kingussie to Balgate in what is a fantastic first round draw while holders Newtonmore play Beauly at home. What is not in doubt is that 2020 will be another fantastic year of MacTavish Cup action."
