Inverness Orienteering Club juniors take top podium place at Scottish championships relays
Inverness orienteers enjoyed a successful bank holiday weekend at the Scottish Orienteering Championships, held this year on the sand dunes of Barry Buddon near Dundee.
Around 500 participants took part in the national event, ranging from age 10 to 80-plus, using a map to navigate between markers on a range of courses from 2km to 16km in length.
Competitions included an individual race on the Saturday and a relay race on the Sunday, with participants taking on age-specific courses in terms of length and difficulty.
Inverness Orienteering Club (INVOC) members took podium positions on both days.
Individual championship prizewinners were: 1st, M16A Douglas McDonald; 1st, M21E Philip Vokes; 1st, M10A Ella Milton; 1st, W14A Cora Comisso; 2nd, W12A Freya Carter; 3rd, W16A Hazel Cload; 3rd, W18E Iona Scott; 3rd, M60L Colin Salisbury.
INVOC had three teams in podium positions at the Sunday relays including the junior relay team prize for the best performing junior team in Scotland.
The winning junior team members were Hazel Cload, Lily Carter and Ewan Thompson. The other podium relay teams were Angus Laird, Iona Scott and Rory Black, plus Ella Milton, Freyja Vanderhoven and Jolyon Picton.
INVOC club president Laurence Cload said: “It was a fast, complicated area but the team performed well and enjoyed themselves. What an excellent set of results and thank you to the organising clubs.”
