Inverness Harriers duo set for Scotland call-up
INVERNESS Harriers brother and sister Lucas and Anna Cairns look certain to have booked their places in the Scottish team for the British Schools cross country international in Falkirk on Saturday, March 21.
Lucas was a clear winner of the under-17 boys’ race at Tuesday’s Scottish Schools championships at South Queensferry while his sister was second in the under-15 girls’ event.
The Scottish Schools Athletic Association have not yet announced their team but it would be unprecedented for a gold or a silver medallist not to be included.
Millburn Academy’s Grace MacDonald was seventh in the under-15 girls’ championship so could also have a chance of selection.
Kirsten Burnett of Charleston Academy won the title in the non-international under-14 age group.
Both Cairns siblings have a rapid turnaround this weekend since they also contest tomorrow’s UK Inter Counties Championships at Loughborough.
Great Britain junior internationalist Megan Keith, who opted to miss the Scottish Schools event, is among the favourites in the under 20 race here.
