Inverness Caley Thistle Women manager Karen Mason backs ‘strong character’ and former Scotland international Fin Annand to make impact in new role as assistant manager
Fin Annand has been named the new assistant manager at Inverness Caledonian Thistle Women.
The one-time Scotland international has been in and out of the set-up at Caley Thistle over recent years, battling fitness issues that forced her to miss some time on the pitch.
However, Annand will now move into a new role off the pitch, assisting manager Karen Mason as the Caley Jags go in search of promotion to the SWPL Two.
“She has always been in and out of the picture, but I think she felt that this was a time where we could do with an extra pair of hands,” Mason explained.
“Any help is definitely appreciated. It’s been something I’ve been looking for, and Fin as a player and as a person is a real asset to us.
“We’ve known each other a long time, so I think we will be comfortable being honest with each other and giving our opinions.
“For me, it will be good to have a different pair of eyes to provide a different perspective, so I’m looking forward to getting her take on things.
“The fact that she has played at a higher level as well means she will be able to give her experience to the younger players.
“It will be great to have her on board, and hopefully she will be able to bring something that I don’t to the table.
“I think she will be a really strong character to have back in the group.”
With Inverness flying high at the top of the Championship table, Mason will be looking for greater consistency in the second half of the campaign to get over the line.
Although they have 10 wins out of 14 league matches to date, their three defeats have been particularly disappointing displays – as have the games where they exited cup competitions.
Clearly, ICT have the ability to compete with anyone in the division, and Mason is looking for her charges to show that every single time they step on to the pitch between now and the end of the season.
“In the first half of the season we had some great results – winning 2-1 away at East Fife is a notable one – but then we got beat by teams we shouldn’t have been beaten by,” she reasoned.
“We’ve just got to see if we’re there or thereabouts later in the season. If we are, great, but if we’re not we can only look at ourselves for our own performances.”
