INVERNESS Athletic will play their home matches in the North Caledonian League this season at Ferry Brae Park in North Kessock.

The club have agreed a deal with operators High Life Highland to play all of their home matches at the venue for the 2022/23 season.

It is the latest home for Athletic who have played at a number of venues since being established seven years ago.

The club played at Cromal Park at Ardersier last season, as well as previously at Pavilion Park at Muir of Ord and a number of artificial surfaces in Inverness.

Club chairman Sandy Stephen says it was important to the club to play their football on a grass surface.

He is delighted to have found a venue which is on the outskirts of Inverness as they look forward to the new campaign which starts in August.

“We will play our football at Ferry Brae for at least this season,” he said.

“Artificial pitches are good and serve a purpose, but you get a more natural game on grass.

“We are getting closer to Inverness and it is good to be nearer home.

“It is a good pitch at Ferry Brae with a good pavilion and it ticks so many boxes for us.

“The long term goal is to find somewhere in Inverness, but we are taking things season by season.

“High Life Highland have been really helping us secure the venue for this season.”

Athletic are scheduled to start pre-season training next week as they look forward to the new campaign.

They have brought in the new management team of brothers Andrew and Stuart Ross, who were previously in charge of St Duthus.

Athletic had a disappointing campaign last season when they finished ninth in the 11-team league.

But Stephen says the club are going into the new season optimistic, especially as their amateur team won the IDFA First Division Cup earlier this month.

“We have a new management team in place and they are hard at work speaking to boys and getting the squad built.

“Things will take properly shape in pre-season which starts next Thursday.

“But once we get there things will be fine.”
