Inverness Athletic have announced it is creating a youth team to play in the North of Scotland Under-20s League next season.
The North Caledonian League outfit have also announced Mike Hall will become the club’s under-20 manager as it looks to give more youngsters in the city a chance to play competitive football.
The club says its ambition with the under-20 squad is to provide young players in Inverness and surrounding areas with an opportunity to step into the world of men’s football.
Hall played for Caley Thistle and Clachnacuddin at youth level and went on to play in the Inverness and District Amateur League where he was also a manager.
Speaking about his appointment, he said: “I’m delighted to take up the role of under-20s manager with Inverness Athletic.
“It is a new venture and an exciting time for the club and me personally.
“A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes by the club to get to this point.
“I am looking forward to working with the squad we have assembled and developing the players individually and collectively.
“It will be a challenge playing against Highland league teams but one we will relish.”
Hall will be assisted by Andrew McGhie who has worked as a coach of Kinmylies United in the Inverness Street and Youth Leagues.
Inverness Athletic secretary Chris Mackenzie said the new under-20 squad was an exciting development in the history of the club.
“To be able to offer young lads the opportunity to continue their football development with us at under 20 level is a fantastic step forward for the club.
“We see an under-20s side as a great way not only keep lads playing football from the age of 17, an age when many drift away from the game, but also as a good way to support the first team with talented young players.
“Everybody at the club is excited for this next chapter in our short history.
“We wish Mike and Andy all the best for the coming season, whenever that may be.”
