Inverness club Loch Ness look to move from amateur status to senior football in the North Caledonian League

INVERNESS could have two football clubs playing in the North Caledonian League next season.

Amateur side Loch Ness have confirmed they have applied to join the NCL.

They are one of four clubs who have reported to have applied to join the division, which if they are all successful could see the league increase from nine to 13 teams.

If Loch Ness are accepted, they will join Inverness Athletic, who have been playing in the NCL for four years. Loch Ness manager Shane Carling says after the club have played at amateur football for more than 20 years, it is time for them to make the next step into senior football.

“This will be our 21st season and it is something that I have looked into for a long time,” he said.

“It was always our goal to do it and it is something the boys want to do.
