Nairn County interim manager Brian Macleod rules himself out of running of taking on job permanently at Highland League club





INTERIM manager Brian Macleod says he does not want to become the boss of Nairn County on a permanent basis.

He has confirmed that he does not want to be in contention for the job despite taking on the role temporarily following Ross Tokely standing down in charge in January.

It comes as Nairn County advertised for a new manager on social media this week as they are inviting applications for the role.

Nairn County are having a disappointing campaign this season as they find themselves in 13th place in the table nine matches left this season.

Macleod was appointed in temporary charge in January but says he has made it clear to the board he has no intention of taking on the job permanently.

He said: "I've made it clear that I won't be going for the job. I made that clear to the club last week.

"It was never my intention to take the job, but we feel there is a lot of work needing to be done. The squad needs strengthened, and some boys are out of contract next season and decisions need to be made.

"It is important that whoever is here as the manager longer term comes in sooner to have a good look at the squad.

"He will need to decide who to keep and what areas needs to the strengthened.”

If a new manager is appointed before the end of the season, Macleod says he would be willing to assist in any transition period.

"Whether I stay on all depends on what happens. I am happy to assist whoever comes in until the end of the season. “The new manager might want to take a back seat to assess things. I will assist in any way.”

Macleod was in charge of Nairn when they went down to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Brora Rangers at Dudgeon Park on Wednesday night.

Connor Bunce got the only goal of the game with a penalty in the 72nd minute as Brora Rangers maintained their three point lead at the top of the league.

Nairn host Inverurie Locos at Station Park on Saturday as Macleod looks for a positive result.

Macleod said: "Inverurie Locos will be another tough game.

"Hopefully we can take some confidence from how we played certainly off the ball at Brora on Wednesday.

"If we are to take anything from Locos, we have to be better on the ball.

“We need to show a bit more quality and composure.

"We have the quality, so it is just about having a bit more belief.”
