FIRST half goals from Shane Sutherland and Graeme Shinnie were enough for Caley Thistle to begin their pre-season schedule of friendly matches with a 2-0 triumph at Clach.

New signing Greg Tansey featured in an Inverness starting line-up that also included former Arsenal defender Kerrea Gilbert and ex-Rangers midfielder Andrew Shinnie as trialists.

Caley Thistle started strongly and signalled their intentions as early as the fifth minute when Sutherland's effort struck the inside of the post before finding the opposite corner of the goal.

Only the heroics of Clach's veteran goalkeeper Stevie Dunn kept the scoreline down as he denied Richie Foran and then Sutherland, while Nick Ross struck the crossbar.

With four minutes remaining before the interval, Caley Thistle doubled their advantage, Graeme Shinnie producing a composed finish from close range after being played in by Ross.

Ross then hit the frame of the goal with an attempted cross before Colin Williamson went close for Clach with a header as the interval approached.

Inverness brought on two more trialists - goalkeeper Michael Andrews and defender Josh Meekings - at the start of the second half, but the visitors could not find any more goals.

Ross, Gavin Morrison and Andrew Shinnie all went close, yet Clach held firm and were able to see out the rest of the match.
