Inverness Caley Thistle - How do attendances for home games in League One compare to Championship? We counted the numbers

Last weekend, Inverness Caledonian Thistle welcomed their biggest attendance of the season to the Caledonian Stadium since being relegated to League One.

Unfortunately, last weekend was also their biggest defeat in League One this season as they lost 4-1 to Cove Rangers.

Dropping down a division this season after being relegated from the Championship has resulted in attendances falling at the Caledonian Stadium.

The average attendance for Inverness Caledonian Thistle as a League One club this season is 1418 from the 13 home matches they have played in all competitions this season.

That is compared to last season in the Championship when the average attendance for 25 home matches in all competitions was 2168.

Last weekend’s 4-1 defeat at home to Cove Rangers was their biggest crowd this season when 1974 fans were in attendance on Saturday, December 2.

It beat the previous highest attendance of 1902 when Inverness drew 1-1 with Montrose on Saturday, August 17.

The third highest attendance this season was the following home game when Inverness defeated Queen of the South 1-0 on Saturday, August 31 which drew 1703 fans.

Their lowest attendance for a League One match was their opening game of the league campaign against Dumbarton which drew 1439 fans.

The lowest attended match this season was their opening League Cup group stage match against Bonnyrigg Rose when just 682 fans attended their 3-0 win.

The two other matches which failed to attract over 1000 fans included their League Cup group stage match against Arbroath with 754 and their Trust Trophy Third Round clash against Stirling Albion which saw 774 fans in attendance.

Last season, when Caley Thistle played in the Championship, their highest league attendance was against Dundee United when 3503 watched on Saturday, September 23, 2023.

The lowest attendance at a Championship match at the Caledonian Stadium last season was against Arbroath on Saturday, December 16 with 1842.

Reaching the later stages of the Scottish Cup can also have an impact. The Scottish Cup fifth round clash with Hibernian in February last year drew an attendance of 3837.
