Inverness Harriers president and legend of Highland sporting scene Charlie Forbes awarded honorary life membership by Scottish Athletics at AGM





Inverness Harriers president Charlie Forbes was awarded honorary life membership of Scottish Athletics at the governing body’s annual general meeting last weekend.

Forbes was given the accolade for his huge contributions at club, district, national and international levels, not only in coaching but also officiating where he officiated at the 2005 European Cross Country Championships, the 2008 World Cross Country Championships and at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Acorss over 40 years of coaching, Forbes has led disability sport in the Highlands and also coached British internationalists Mhairi MacLennan and Jamie Bowie.

He is also currently playing a major role in the campaign for the refurbishment of Queens Park track, which would see it remain of a high enough quality to host major competitions.

Forbes’ recognition is the latest in a string of achievements for Inverness Harriers personnel this month, coming after runner Luke Davidson won the Scottish 800m title and fellow coach Ross Cairns was named the Scottish Athletics performance coach of the year at their annual awards ceremony.
