Home draws for Beauly and Lovat in Camanachd Cup quarter finals as defending champions Kingussie due to make trip to Braeview Park

Beauly have been given the toughest possible draw in the quarter finals of the Camanachd Cup.

The last-eight was drawn earlier today at Lovat Shinty Club by referee Steven MacLachlan, who is recovering well from a critical cardiac incident that took place at the beginning of April.

MacLachlan is set to make his return to officiating as a goal judge in the MacTavish Cup final on June 8.

Despite being given home advantage though, Beauly will have to get past Badenoch giants Kingussie to get any further in the competition.

Lovat, finalists in two out of the last three years, will also have home advantage as they prepare to take on Skye in their quarter final.

Runners up in 2023 Oban Camanachd are set to take on Lochaber, while the quarter final line-up is completed by Glasgow Mid-Argyll’s trip to Fort William.

Burton Morrison, Camanachd Association President said: “The quarter final draw of the Camanachd Cup never fails to create interest in the shinty world as teams begin to assess their chances of taking another step towards the big final.

“The fact that several top clubs dropped out of the competition last weekend may stimulate even greater interest. The draw is another opportunity to recognise the support of Tulloch Homes, and will no doubt produce some exciting ties for the supporters to savour.”

Tulloch Homes managing director Sandy Grant said: “It’s been an exciting season for the Camanachd cup so far – and I’m sure it will continue to deliver through to the final in September.

“We wish all the teams in the quarter finals the very best of luck with their upcoming games, which, I’m sure will be an entertaining watch.

“We, of course, also extend our well wishes to Steven MacLachlan and his family and are pleased to hear he is recovering well.”

Referee Steven MacLachlan said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back out there after completing my recovery and I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to be part of the team of officials at the first final of the season and hopefully, will soon be able to take full charge of a match.

“I was one of the officials for Tulloch Homes Camanachd Cup final in 2023 and it is truly the biggest event in the shinty calendar, best of luck to all the teams in today’s draw.”
