Highland Rugby Club tested in opening friendly session against Marr

Highland Rugby Club’s preparations for the new season in National One got off to a testing start last weekend in a session with Marr Rugby Club.

Marr finished as National One champions last season and have been promoted to the Scottish Premiership.

Head coach Dave Carson said it was a great workout at Canal Park against the Troon side, and although they were under the cosh there were lots of positives which will stand them in good stead for the forthcoming campaign.

“We played four 20-minute sessions and in truth we didn’t really keep a track of the score,” Carson said.

“The important thing was to make sure we gave everyone in our 32-strong squad a run-out, and of course it was great to get a trial with a club who have just stepped up from the league we are going to be competing in next season.

“Marr went up as National One Champions, so it was always going to be a stiff test, but it’s good to get a team of that quality up here for a friendly."
