Highland squad made up of Inverness Lions wins wheelchair basketball Inter-Regional Championship against best in Scotland

Inverness Lions have another set of winners after their junior wheelchair basketball side won at the Inter-Regional Championships.

Over 30 young people gathered at the Dundee International Sports Centre earlier this month for the annual regional festival of junior wheelchair basketball.

They were able to compete against the best players from other Scottish regions in front of National Academy coaches.

There were two competitions, an under-13s and under-18s, with the Highlands – made up of Inverness Lions players – coming out on top in the younger category.

Tayside took the silver medal, while the East and Grampian claimed bronze.

An all-star team made up of the best individual performers was also named, with the Lions’ Samantha Slaven included in the under-13s bracket.

West White won the under-18 competition ahead of the East team and the West Red team.

The event was supported by regional managers from Scottish Disability Sport and funded by RGK Wheelchairs, whose international sports specialist Shaun Gash commented: “It was an absolute pleasure to represent RGK at the Scotland Regional Junior Festival, and what a day it was!

“It was filled with smiles, laughter, and competitive wheelchair basketball from every young person who attended.

“To see families supporting, and young players putting into practice the skills and drills their coaches have been working on, paved the way for the next generation of talent in Scotland.

“RGK proudly sponsored this event, and I can see why – it was fantastic to see so many players using RGK made-to-measure sports chairs in their own individual colours.

“I’m looking forward to next year, and to seeing each player flourish on their playing journey.”
