Head coach Dave Carson says Highland are not in a good place and need to pick up wins immediately if they are to avoid relegation from National One this season.

Highland return to action when they are set to take on Boroughmuir at Canal Park on Saturday and are aiming for a bonus point victory.

The Inverness club went down to a narrow 24-20 defeat at Biggar last week and are second bottom of the 10-team division. They are five points from safety with the season approaching the half way stage.

Highland have their next two matches at home, with Gala set to travel up to Inverness on November 9.

Carson says they have to be out on the attack looking to score four tries in each of the home games to get valuable bonus points which could prove vital.

“We are not in a good place,” admitted Carson.

“We need to pick up points and we have a couple of home games on the bounce.

“We need to get ourselves out of this and need to pick up five points from our home games before Christmas.

“We have to be positive and put pressure on ourselves to get four tries from games, we need to climb out of where we are and need to do that in home games.

“We have to travel to Stirling County and GHA before Christmas and we have Boroughmuir, Gala and Jed Forest at home. I am looking for maximum points from these home fixtures.

“Our squad sat down to speak about this season. We have been over the highs over the last nine years and we need to show our mettle and pull together even tighter and fight for ourselves.

“We need every point with three teams going down this season.”

Gordon Gregor and Callum Carson returned to the squad last week and they should be further bolstered with Ruaridh Knott and Callum Macpherson expected to be in the squad.

Highland 2nd XV are not in action in Caledonia North One on Saturday.

In Caledonia North Two, Highland 3rd XV are travelling to the Western Isles to face Stornoway.

Inverness Craig Dunain are in Elgin as they are taking on Moray 2nd XV.
