Highland League match between Nairn County and Brechin City abandoned due to ‘medical emergency in crowd’





A Highland League match has been abandoned due to a medical emergency in the crowd.

Nairn County’s clash with Brechin City was called off at half-time due to the incident, with a Nairn fan reported to having fallen unwell.

County were 2-1 ahead at the time of the abandonment, with the club saying: “Our thoughts with all concerned at the moment.”

Brechin City added: “The first priority is always the health and safety of everyone in attendance and we thank all for their understanding and cooperation during this difficult situation.”

Ben Barron and Calum Mackay had scored for Nairn, with Brechin’s goal scored by Spencer Moreland. It is unclear when the game will be replayed.

Wick Academy’s home match against Banks o’ Dee was also called off this morning - due to a waterlogged park.

Six Highland League matches did start and finish this afternoon - including Clachnacuddin’s sensational revenge hammering of Forres Mechanics.

The Inverness side, beaten 3-2 by Forres in the North Cup final, walloped the Can-Cans 6-0 at Grant Street Park.

Former Forres winger Allan MacPhee scored a hat-trick, James Anderson got two and Fergus Adams grabbed the final goal.

Six goals were shared equally in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash between Formartine United and Brora Rangers in Aberdeenshire.

Robbie Thompson and Russell Dingwall had Brora 2-0 up at half-time, before Julian Wade and Glenn Murison levelled the game.

Shane Sutherland thought he’d scored the winner for the visitors on 88 minutes, but Formartine’s Scott Ross had the final say to make it 3-3 on 92 minutes.

Huntly were 5-2 winners at Rothes, with the returning Andy Hunter scoring for the Black and Golds.

Sam Robertson (2, including a penalty), Brodie Allen and James Connelly were the other Huntly scorers.

Ross Logan and Sam Rothnie scored for the Speysiders, with Cameron Heslop also sent off for the away team late on.

Buckie Thistle won 3-2 at Inverurie Loco Works to continue their good form.

Josh Peters scored twice and Darryl McHardy got the third goal for the Jags, with Robert Ward and Josh Buchan scoring for Locos.

Keith won a Moray derby at Lossiemouth - Jordan Cooper and Callum Robertson were the goal scorers at Grant Park.

Turriff United and Strathspey Thistle drew 1-1 with Miller Keir scoring for the home side and Strathspey grabbing a point through Liam Shewan’s penalty.
