Highland football pays tribute to respected youth coach
Highland football was united in their tribute to one of youth football's most respected coaches who died on Monday.
John Beaton (68) from Inverness was well-known for his roles as youth coach and assistant manager at Caledonian and as former head of youth football at Highland League side Clachnacuddin.
He was also manager at Nairn County Football Club from 1989-90.
A minute's silence was held before the League Cup match between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Cove Rangers at the Caledonian Stadium last night.
A minute's silence will also be held for Beaton at the Alan Hercher Memorial Cup game to be played at Clachnacuddin's Grant Street Park on Saturday.
Former Caledonian manager Peter Corbett paid tribute to Beaton saying he was a man who dedicated his life to coaching youth football.
John sacrificed his whole life coaching youth football and I don’t think there is anyone who played football in Inverness over the last 40 years who wasn’t affected by him.
"He didn’t just teach them football but life skills as well – John was always keen to teach players about good behaviour, discipline and respect, and many people were thankful for it."
Clachnacuddin chairman Alex Chisholm also paid tribute to Beaton saying: "You can’t underestimate the contribution he had made to youth football in Inverness."
