The 34-year-old from Kiltarlity was forced to go four extra holes after the two men were all square at the 18th.

But after 22 holes, it was the Muir of Ord Golf Club head greenkeeper who kept his cool to finish off a two-foot putt to seal the championship.

Hexley says it was a tough final, but was relieved to keep his nerve to become club champion for 2020.

“It was all square after 18 and it was tough match being taken to four extra holes,” he said.

“I was one-up going into the last, and there was never more than one hole between us during the entire final and it was a tight occasion.

“We were both playing well and neither of us wanted to give it away.

“At the extra holes, we were still level at the first, second and third and then went onto the 16th.

“We both played decent shots and Ross missed a three-foot putt and I holed a two-foot putt.

“It was hard going and I had to hole a very good putt at the second extra hole to keep the match going.

“I think it was the turning point for me, as I thought I was going to lose it there.”

Hexley added the Kings trophy to championships at Golspie and Muir of Ord in the past. He has also won the Scottish Left Handed Championship three times.

“Any club championship, you win is up there in your career.

“Any championship that you play in you want to win.

“With Kings being such a new club and getting your name up in the clubhouse is really good.”

With no open championships taking place due to restrictions in place from Scottish Golf, Hexley is looking to play competitions at Kings and Muir of Ord where he is members of golf club.

Due to the restrictions there is not many competitions, so I will just play some competitions at the clubs for the rest of the year.

“It has been a different season compared to normal ones.”

Elsewhere at the Kings Golf Club Championships, Alan Brown won crowned the senior champion with Andrew Skinner taking the gents handicap title.

Iona Roska won the ladies championships with Linda Gillies taking the ladies handicap championship.
