BILLY Dodds admits Caley Thistle have no time to waste in pursuit of a first, re-energising victory since a fortnight before Christmas.

The Inverness manager’s message was clear ahead of Ayr United’s visit tomorrow – every three points is now vital and a huge push is needed.

Dodds senses the drama of Kirk Broadfoot’s late leveller in the 3-3 draw with Partick 10 days ago could be the spark to ignite winning form after eight games without one.

The depths of desire shown by the Caley Jags’ side was there for all to see and, to Dodds, it almost felt like a victory.

“With 11 games left, every game is crucial. That’s where we are at now,” Dodds said.

“If we are to have any aspirations of winning the title, we have to take our fair percentage of results out of those 11 games.

“I’m asking them for a big push to go and get the results we require, either to win the league or put us in the play-offs. Anybody who was at the Partick game saw what we can bring.

“We have had setbacks this season and we’ve had to handle them, but that’s no excuse.

“My team has got plenty, in mentality and in ability, and they are bringing it to the table. When they needed it most against Partick Thistle, where defeat would have been really sore, we just kept going at it.

“I can feel it – we are due to get a result really soon.

“If we bring the same performance level against Ayr that we did against Partick, without gifting silly goals, we will be winning games.”

Ayr, now under Lee Bullen’s management, secured a morale-boosting derby win over Kilmarnock 10 days ago.

Dodds, who has Aaron Doran back in full training, has done his homework.

“I know what they’ll bring. It’s a different manager with his own ideas,” he said. “They have plenty and their confidence is high. If we’re at the top of our game and play as we can, we should be beating Ayr United, but that’s never a given.”
