Aaron Doran believes it has been a good season for Inverness Caledonian Thistle, despite having to settle for another year in the Championship.

ICT lost in the Premiership play-off semi final to Dundee United last Friday, meaning promotion hopes had to be put on hold for at least one more campaign.

The club had talked about getting back into the top flight as the main target for last season, but too many draws at the start of the campaign put paid to that plan.

They had to settle for a play-off spot instead, where they got past Ayr United in the quarter final before falling to Dundee United.

There was mixed success in the cups, with a controversial Betfred Cup exit and a first-round exit in their defence of the Irn-Bru Cup being tempered by a run out at Hampden in the Scottish Cup.

Caley Thistle have already been planning for next season even without knowing with any certainty what league they would be playing in.

Experienced forward James Keatings has signed from Hamilton with three promotions to his name.

Former Blackburn Rovers under-23 captain David Carson has also arrived on a free transfer from Morpeth Town.

So, though Doran was positive about the season as a whole, he is already aiming for even better in the 2019/20 season.
