The Scottish Golf North squad, which featured golfers from Nairn, Sutherland and Caithness won all three of their matches to be crowned 2025 champions.

They have now qualified to compete at the Scottish County Finals which will take place at Alyth Golf Club in August.

The winning squad was captained by Jenny Milne from Elgin Golf Club and also featured Nairn Golf Club members Sammy Fotheringham and Carinne Taylor along with Nairn Dunbar Golf Club member Iona Reid.

Also in the winning squad were Caitlin Boa and Cara Thompson from Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Laura Durrand from Thurso Golf Club, Eleanor Tunn from Reay Golf Club and Ellie Docherty from Moray Golf Club.

The North Squad won all three of their matches which included a 5-4 victory against Angus, an 8-1 win against Perth and Kinross and 5.5 - 3.5 against Aberdeenshire.

Nairn Ladies Open champion Taylor, who was vice captain of the squad, said it was a terrific performance from the entire squad to claim the title.

She said: “We are all incredibly delighted to have won the competition.

“We have had a really strong team for the last two or three years, there is no drama with us as we get on really well and always have great fun together.

“Our first match against Angus was quite tight as we were behind in the foursomes and then went on to win four out of six in the singles to edge the match.

“We were very strong against Perth and Kinross and then beat Aberdeenshire to win it. There were a lot of matches that could gone either way and it was a tough competition.”

The North squad now head to the Scottish County Finals at Alyth where they will take on the winners from the East, South and West sections.

Taylor says that it will be a tough contest in two months time, but believes they have the quality capable of becoming national champions this summer.

She said: “We finished runners-up at the competition two years ago and finished third last year, so for us we hope this will be third time lucky to get the gold.

“At the competition, we will just take it as it comes. We will look to do what we did last weekend. We have a very strong squad and there is no reason why we can’t compete and win.

“When it comes to matchplay golf, it is anyone’s game, so we just have to stay focussed and just go for it.

“It is just a huge honour to be selected to play in the North squad, as there are a few golfers that could have been chosen for the team.

“But part of the selection is ensuring the players can work as a team together. That has been crucial in the last two to three years that we have had a team that is so close and works so well for each other. There are no individuals and the results are a bonus. We just enjoy playing alongside each other as a team.”
