The Scotland international goalkeeper will take over the captaincy from Callum Cruden with Craig Mainland selected to be vice captain this season.

Lovat co-boss Jamie Matheson is delighted that MacDonald has accepted the challenge of captain.

“He was vice captain last season so it is a natural move for Stuart,” said Matheson.

“He will be an exceptional captain – he commands total respect from the rest of the team and he brings a stability to the side”.

Matheson rejected suggestions the skipper should be an outfield player.

“Stuart was captain when we won the MacTavish Cup in 2014 so he knows what is involved,” he said.

“He gets a great view of how the game is going so as goalkeeper he is ideally placed”.
