The Thistle Girls FC tournament saw over 100 girls play football at Millburn Academy in Inverness

More than 100 pupils from clubs and schools across Inverness, Nairn and Ross-shire took part at the Thistle Girls’ FC Tournament which took place at Millburn Academy.

The event was organised to help promote girls football which is claimed to be one of the fastest growing sports in the region.

Thistle Girls’ FC coach Lee Murray said the event was a winner with all the players who took part.

He said: "There was great skills on show and some great support from friends and families.

He added: "Girls’ football is thriving in the Highlands.

"With more girls’ tournaments planned in the next few months it can only continue to grow and become more successful."

The teams who took part in the football tournament were Dalneigh Primary School; Holm Primary School; Inverness Ladies Development Squad; Lochardil Primary School; Merkinch Primary School; Millbank Primary School; Park Primary School; Rosebank Primary School and Thistle Colts Football Club.
