Former Inverness Caledonian Thistle star scores his seventh goal for Scotland
Inverness footballer Ryan Christie scored his seventh goal for Scotland, but it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat to Croatia in the Nations League in a 2-1 defeat in Zagreb.
In his 55th cap for his country, the Bournemouth midfielder gave Scotland the lead in the 32nd minute when Josip Sutalo sliced a clearance of a Ben Doak cross and Christie pounced and turned it in from a tight angle.
However Croatia equalised four minutes later when Igor Matanovic smashed a strike into the top corner.
The Croatians then took the lead with 20 minutes remaining when Andrej Kramaric nodded home a rebound after Craig Gordon saved a strike from Borna Sosa but could only divert it into the forward’s path.
The result means Scotland remain bottom of the Nations League group with no points after also losing their opening two games against Poland and Portugal.
Christie (29) came through the Inverness Caledonian Thistle youth system and signed a professional contract with the club in 2011.
He made his debut for Inverness against Celtic in December 2013 and was a first team regular for two seasons before signing for Celtic in 2015. But he was sent back to Inverness on a season long loan deal. He was also sent on loan to Aberdeen before becoming a first team regular with Celtic in 2018.
During his three years at Celtic he won all three major trophies. He signed for Bournemouth in 2021 when he helped them win promotion to the Premiership in their first season.
Christie scored for the first time since finding the net against Gibraltar in a 2-0 win in a friendly in June.
