Former Inverness Caledonian Thistle player is called up to Scotland student squad
A former Inverness Caledonian Thistle player has been called up to represent the Scotland student squad.
Matheus Machado, who was with Inverness during the 2019/20 season, has been selected in the 26-man squad which was announced yesterday.
The midfielder, who is Brazilian and currently plays for League One outfit Montrose, is also a first year student at the University of St Andrews.
He was named in the Scottish student squad for the 2024/25 season which will play in friendlies which are set to be arranged.
Machado signed for Inverness Caledonian Thistle in August 2018 from Sao Paulo club Red Bull Brasil.
Speaking signing for Inverness at the time, Machado said: “I feel absolutely blessed with the opportunity of moving from Sao Paulo to the Highlands, a place that looks like a real paradise to me.”
He played one competitive game for Inverness, coming on as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat to Partick Thistle in March 2019.
He was released from the club in June 2020 when his contract expired and went on to sign for Portuguese outfit Rio Ave.
He returned to Scotland in August 2021 when he signed for League Two outfit Elgin City where he made 18 appearances. He left Borough Briggs after one season and signed for Highland League outfit Rothes in August 2022.
He stayed at the Speyside outfit before being signed by League One outfit Montrose in January 2023 and has become a first team regular.
