The Bournemouth midfielder scored his eighth goal in what was his 62nd cap for Scotland as they remain in contention for the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Scotland were under huge pressure for the majority of the game as Greece dominated large parts of the match.

Greece took the lead in the 61st minute when Konstantinos Tsimikas fired home from eight yards out.

But two minutes later, Christie equalised when he latched on to a nodded ball from Grant Hanley before shooting home from close range.

With 10 minutes remaining, Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson put Scotland in front when he connected with an Andy Robertson free kick to fire home.

Lyndon Dykes then sealed the victory in injury time when Konstantinos Tzolakis failed to hang on to a backpass and the striker pounced before firing into an empty net.

Christie did receive a yellow card and will be out of Sunday’s clash against Belarus.

Scotland are in second place in Group C on seven points and only behind group leaders on goal difference after they thrashed Belarus 6-0.

Greece are in third on three points with Belarus bottom on zero points.

Christie is a product of the Inverness Caledonian Thistle youth system, where he signed his first professional contract with the club in 2011.

He spent three years at the club in total playing 63 matches and was also part of the 2015 Scottish Cup winning team beating Falkirk 2-1.

He spent six years with Celtic, which included one season on loan with Aberdeen between 2015 and 2021.

He joined Bournemouth in 2021 for a fee reported to be worth £1.5 million.

He has also represented Scotland at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024.
