The 19-year-old is reported to have agreed terms to play at Seafield Park for the 2020/21 campaign after being released by the Championship club.

Manager Gordon Nicolson says Hastings was due to sign a contract this week ahead of the new season.

Nicolson says it might be only a short-term deal at Strathspey, with Hastings weighing up other options.

But he hopes Hastings can make a big impression however long he stays with the club.

“It is great to get Gabriel on board as he has been in training with us to keep himself fit,” he said.

“It is a deal which might only last a few months because he has a few things in the pipeline as he looks for his next challenge.

“But we will look to reap the benefits in the short term. He is a good footballer who has been well-schooled at Caley Thistle.”

However, former Clach and Nairn County defender Martin MacDonald,

who agreed a deal to join the Jags earlier this year, has announced his retirement from football. MacDonald explained to Nicolson that he no longer had the same enthusiasm to play and the club accepted his wishes.

“It was disappointing as we were keen to work with Martin and we feel that he had something to offer to players around about him,” said Nicolson.

“But we totally understand his decision, we think that Covid-19 has had a big part in it.”
