Football match between Conon Bridge and NMM Sams abandoned after playing sustains serious injury in Inverness and District First Division

A football match was abandoned after a player sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital.

The match between Conon Bridge and NMM Sams was stopped after 40 minutes after the incident took place.

The NMM Sams player, who has not been named, has been taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

NMM Sams confirmed the incident on their Facebook site writing: "Game abandoned around the 40th minute due to a serious head injury to one of our players.

"No further update will be provided until an update on his condition has been issued by the hospital."
