Nairn St Ninian announce withdrawal from Scottish Women’s Football’s Highlands and Islands League midway through the season

Nairn St Ninian have announced they are withdrawing from the Highlands and Islands League for the remainder of the 2024 season.

After a few years of growing the game and improved performances, the football club has struggled to pick up results over the last season and-a-half, and have seen a high turnover of players.

They say they have taken the decision to allow them to focus on growing a stronger core playing squad ahead of next year, when they intend to return to competition.

“After careful consideration, we've made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Highlands and Islands League for the remainder of this season,” St Ninian Women posted on social media.

“This step will allow us to focus on rebuilding and strengthening our squad in preparation for the 2025 season.

“We want to thank all our fans, sponsors, and the community for their continued support. We’re excited about what the future holds and will be working hard to come back stronger next year!

“Stay tuned for updates and thank you for standing by us during this transition.”

The Nairn Saints had picked up four points from nine matches so far this season, courtesy of a 3-3 draw with Ross County’s development team and a 3-0 win over Ross and Cromarty.

It is yet to be confirmed by governing body Scottish Women’s Football what will happen to the league table, but in previous instances of teams pulling out of the league part-way through the campaign their results have been rendered null and void.
