Adam Jackson gave Hibs the lead at half time before goals from Scott Allan and Greg Docherty put them 3-0 up in the second half.

Carl Tremarco pulled one back with 18 minutes to go to give Inverness hope.

But the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Brad McKay was sent off for a two footed lunge on Christian Doidge.

Stephane Omeonga and Jamie Gullan completed the rout to dump Caley Thistle out with Nikolay Todorov grabbing a late consolation.

Manager John Robertson made four changes to the team that won at Dunfermline as he put out his starting 11 in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Lewis Toshney was cup tied with Roddy MacGregor and Miles Storey relegated to the bench and James Vincent out altogether.

Kevin McHattie came in at centre back with Charlie Trafford into central defence with James Keatings and Tom Walsh starting after being substitutes in the 2-1 win at Dunfermline Athletic.

Caley Thistle could've taken the lead in the first minute when Jordan White was unchallenged to connect with Walsh's cross from six yards out.

But he could get no power on his header as the ball landed safely in the hands of Omir Marciano.

Hibs were left screaming for a penalty after 10 minutes after Martin Boyle broke free of the Caley Thistle defence with only goalkeeper Mark Ridgers to beat.

While trying to run around Ridgers, Boyle claimed he was tripped by the goalkeeper but the referee booked the forward for diving.

But Hibernian were awarded a penalty on the half hour mark when Kevin McHattie was ruled guilty of pulling Marc McNulty’s shirt.

However Ridgers kept the game goalless as he dived to his right to deny Paul Hanlon’s penalty finding the net and also saved the rebound.

Walsh had a golden chance to give Caley Thistle the lead when he broke free of the Hibs defence with only the goalkeeper to beat.

But his low drive forced a save from Marciano who parried his shot on to the left post.

But Hibs broke the deadlock seven minutes before half time when Adam Jackson latched on to a free kick into the box and fired home close to the left post.

The hosts doubled their advantage just before the hour mark when in a counter attack McNulty set up Scott Allan in the box to fire past Ridgers from 12 yards.

The game looked dead and buried when Greg Docherty made it 3-0 20 minutes from time.

But two minutes later Carl Tremarco pulled one back to give Inverness hope.

But the visitors were reduced to 10 men minutes later when McKay was sent off for a two-footed lunge on Doidge.

The hosts made their advantage count as Omeonga and Gullan both struck thunderous efforts in the last 10 minutes which beat Ridgers to secure their place in the last four.

Todorov pulled one back three minutes from time, but it was too late to save Inverness.
