JAMIE Whittet leads the Inverness Four Day Open after Day One of the competition held at Inverness Golf Club.

Whittet leads the top of the table by one shot after he hit a superb 65, including six birdies, with a solitary blemish at the 18th.

Jordan Shaw from Boat of Garten and John Forbes from Inverness are one shot behind with 66.

In the handicap sections, Calum Grant, Andrew Finlayson and Willie Chisholm returned 68s and with a bunched leader board qualification for the matchplay stages is still wide open.

Round two started at 7am on Tuesday with the early starters set for better conditions. The draw for the matchplay stages takes place at the conclusion of play with matches to commence on Wednesday morning.

For the first time, the event included hole in one prizes including £5000 for an ace at the ninth. Despite a few close shaves none of the prizes were won this year.

Club professional Mel Douglas will be hosting the annual putting competition at 7pm on Tuesday as a qualifier for the British Putting Championships.

Entry is open to members and non members. The Tomatin Distillery Whisky tasting event follows in the clubhouse at 8pm with all welcome to attend.
