Inverness Caley Thistle manager Duncan Ferguson says deal to bring Premiership striker in on loan looks off due to finances

Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s hunt for a striker has been scuppered by the club’s finances, manager Duncan Ferguson has revealed.

The Caley Jags boss had believed he was closing in on an answer to the side’s goalscoring problems ahead of yesterday’s match against Stenhousemuir, with a deal agreed to take a Premiership club’s forward on loan subject to personal terms.

However, after the 0-0 draw with Stenny, Ferguson admitted that it no longer looked like the deal would happen due to a discrepancy between the parent club’s wishes and what ICT could offer.

“It looks like it’s not going to happen,” he said.

“That’s down to finances, and the length of the contract.

“They wanted it to last until the end of the season with an option to take him back in January, and we can only finance the deal until January. We can’t, at the moment, progress that deal. It is what it is.

“I’ve got to get on with it, I’ve got good enough players in the dressing room and I believe in them.

“We’ll go into the next game confident, and hopefully something will drop for us.

“I’m trying my best. I’ve spoken to their manager, and he’s going to try his best to convince their board that we can try and get it done until January.

“It’s not totally dead, they might come back and agree to do the deal until January, and if that was the case then it can get done tomorrow but we can’t afford to take him any longer than that.”

Inverness have a deadline of Monday night to make a domestic loan signing, but if nothing changes with said Premiership club then Ferguson is not optimistic over his chances of arranging any other deals.

“I’ve not got any other options,” Ferguson added.

“We took a couple of trialists in this week that we didn’t push.

“One was from down south, and one was James Graham from Stornoway, but we never went through with those.

“I’ve been trying for weeks and weeks, and as everyone knows we’re way behind the curve with recruitment.

“Now we’re obviously just scratching around trying to come up with another name if we can.

“We really wanted this player, because he would make a big difference to us, but at the moment we can only do it until January because finances won’t let us take him for any longer.”
