Lochardil Primary School leapt to success when they claimed two gold medals at the Scottish Schools Gymnastics Championships.

Competing in the Level One category, the team of Ava Considine, Jessica Douglas, Ava MacInnes and Siyan Rouf took the team championship.

There was also further success as MacInnes became overall Scottish champion with Considine and Douglas claiming joint bronze in Perth.

Lochardil head coach Hazel Ardern says it was an incredible achievement for the school to become national champions.

"We won silver in 2015 and a bronze in 2018 but in the five years that I have been coaching at the school they have never won gold," she said.

"To describe how big an achievement it is, they qualified out for 450 gymnasts at the Highland heats.

"They were one of the top two teams that have qualified for the national finals and took on schools from 28 other regions.

"It was a massive event and it was great to see them come out on top."

During the competition, the team had to compete a floor routine and two vaults.

Ardern says it was a tremendous team effort and held special praise for MacInnes becoming Scottish champion.

"Ava had the highest score after her combined effort on the floor and vault.

"It is super to say she is a Scottish schools level one champion.

"All of these girls are in primary four and are in the first year of school champion.

"They all have the potential to go on and smash at level two next year.

"After that they will go on to leve three and look to progress after that.

"As they are Scottish champions they will automatically move up a level which they will cope with fine."
